Buteyko breathing method

 

The  Buteyko Breathing Method is a series of exercises and guidelines to reduce over-breathing or hyperventilation. It is used to treat anxiety and panic disorders, chronic stress, sleep issues, asthma, and can help with reduction of symptoms like coughing, breathlessness and wheezing.

Individual attention

Enjoy learning the Buteyko method from the comfort of your own home or in person at my office in the East Village near downtown Des Moines with private, 1-to-1 coaching to reach your wellness goals.

Small group 

Groups are kept small (3-4) so learning and integration remains optimal and you receive some individual attention.

Children and teens

Does your child habitually breathe through the mouth? Do they snore? Breathing through the nose day and night is best for optimal health.

What is buteyko?

 

Breathing re-education aims to reduce disordered breathing so the breathing pattern becomes more efficient. Techniques to clear the nose, manage symptoms and reduce unnecessary coughing are also included.

Life style management focuses on stress reduction, healthy eating and exercise promotion. Buteyko Breathing Technique requires commitment and some discipline. This technique only works if the exercises are practiced regularly.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

Cancellations made 7 or more days prior to date of first class: Full fee is transferable for use within 6 months from session start date. 
Cancellations made 24 to 72 hours prior to date of first class: 50% of full fee is transferable for use within 6 months from session start date. 
Less than 24 hours notice prior to date of first class, no shows, and withdrawing mid-class: Full fee is forfeited. 
If you pay via the online credit card system or Paypal and you request a refund, From Within Wellness, LLC will refund you the total amount less a 3.5% surcharge fee for credit card processing.

Breathing Re-Education and Phenotypes of Sleep Apnea

This review examines each of the four phenotypes of OSAHS and explores how these could be targeted using breathing re-education from three dimensions of functional breathing: biochemical, biomechanical and resonant frequency. Breathing re-education and myofunctional therapy may be helpful for patients across all four phenotypes of OSAHS.

How to Identify Dysfunctional Breathing

If a person’s breath hold time (also known as the “control pause” – holding the breath at the end of the exhale) is at least 25 seconds, there is an 89% chance that dysfunctional breathing patterns are not present. Dysfunctional breathing (DB) is a commonly occurring condition in the general population. It is estimated that as high 50-80% of adults have some level of DB

Buteyko training was so fascinating. Working with Allison helped me identify dysfunctional breathing patterns and develop simple practices to improve breathing habits. I noticed subtle improvements like less jaw tension and better sleep within the first couple weeks. I have more awareness of my breathing and posture in my day to day activities. Learning the Buteyko breathing methods from Allison was a very valuable experience. I came to Allison with problems of anxiety and interrupted sleep patterns. Through five weekly sessions of instruction, demonstration, and practice of breathing exercises Allison taught me that I can, with continued work, take control of my reactions to stressors by using the Buteyko method in the moment. Also, with continuation of the practice I have noticed a lessening in the frequency of waking at night and I am now using the breathing techniques when I do wake to shorten the length of time to fall back to sleep. She is so knowledgeable and professional in her presentation and her kindness and empathy put me at ease during our sessions. I would highly recommend this program with Allison.

Who knew that breathing efficiently could make such a difference in my life? I met with Alison to learn the Buteyko breathing technique. Before I started the 5-week program I was experiencing anxiety, sleep disturbances, fatigue and difficulty participating in my favorite physical activities.
